Biography: Sara Abri
Sara Abri was born in Tehran in 1982. She received her BA from the Azad University of Fine Art where she studied painting. Abri has had several group exhibitions including one in Las Vegas. By the age of twelve she had won several awards as a child painter. Abri is not interested in taking stands on issues; she wants to simply express in her own words 'that which is'. She paints her formalistic works in order to comment on what she terms 'entities', like war. "I don't want my viewers to take an objective perspective on war. I don't want them to get stuck in making value judgements," Abri claims, "I simply want them to see it. How they interpret it is no longer my concern." She not only forsakes value judgements in her works but breaks all moulds in her belief that moulds automatically create limitations. Abri's works rise to break free of all values and norms by layering painting upon painting in vivid colors to carry the attention of the viewer to that singular focal point where she leaves them waiting to receive an answer, a solution. But they soon realize there is none forthcoming for Abri is not out to deliver she is simply out to portray. Sara Abri is presently living and working in Tehran.
