Biography: Mojgan Hosseini
Born in Tehran in 1968 Mojgan Hosseini studied sculpture at the Tehran University of Fine Arts after which she went on to get her masters degree in painting from the same university. To date Hosseini has participated in over sixty five group and solo exhibitions and has won several national prizes including the Diploma of Renowned Iranian Women Artists. Apart from being a famous artist Hosseini is also a lecturer at the Tehran University of Fine Arts. According to this painter, ‘In art the artist plays the role of a mirror held up to nature. At times the artist embraces nature while at others she distances herself from it. However, the starting point of her journey is always Nature and the world around it. It is this mixture that the painter strives to grasp and express through her forms and colors. I have tried to achieve a new understanding of the expression of nature in my works. And yet at the same time I have sought to render a new space in which I have escaped binding visual limitations and norms to express my affinity with nature.’ Though her lines, colors and forms remain extremely simple they arouse a certain feeling of unity in the viewer. In her works Hosseini uses highly symbolic colors to represent the interrelationship between Man and nature. Presently Mojgan Hosseini is living and working in Tehran.
