Biography: Farah Seyed Abolghassem

Born in 1960 in Iran Farah Seyed Abolghassem got her BA in painting from the Faculty of Fine Arts at the Al Zahra University in 1988. Abolghassem has worked in various artistic fields including jewelry making and woodworking. In her career she has exhibited in both group and solo exhibitions in such counties as England, Belgium, the US, France and Iran. Likewise, she is a member of the International Women Artists Association of Paris. Among the various prizes Seyed Abolghassem has received is the first prize from the City Hall Gallery of Paris. Farah Seyed Abolghassem has spent years experimenting with paling colors to create the ambience of untold atmospheres and which point to the pangs of memory. She creates textures on her canvases that are minimal in their pure simplicity. She has been considered an abstract painter though one does come across forms in her works that approach figurative painting. Abolghassem is one of the Iranian painters who has kept her bonds with nature and is inspired by it in both her forms and colors. The past few years have been ones in which this painter has developed a tendency for the use of pale colors that she highlights with the mixed media she incorporates into her works. Farah Seyed Abolghassem is presently living and working in Tehran.
