Biography: Reza Bangiz
Born in 1937 in Tehran Reza Bangiz received his university education at the Tehran School of Fine Art where he achieved his doctorate. Over the years Bangiz has participated in numerous exhibitions ranging from such countries as Japan, Belgium, France, Saudi Arabia, Armenia, Iran, the US, Turkey and Greece. He has also received several scholarships that have allowed him to carry out the research he so enjoys. Among his awards are two first prizes of the Iranian Painting Biennial Competition. Bangiz has taught at Iranian universities for over fifty years.
According to Alexandros Georgiou, “ Reza Bangiz’s canvases are the result of a customized process of linocut printmaking. The prints are made on canvas by hand and then worked with a brush. Bangiz is one of very few painters with such a distinct personal style. His clear forms exude a purity and gentleness along with a moving innocence. Some of his paintings have an almost childlike quality about them, though closer inspection, reveals that what seemed childlike on first sight is actually rooted in a system of principles and ideas embodied in the process and forms of his works.” Reza Bangiz is presently living and working in Tehran.
